It was the week before I was due to move with my boyfriend to a condo across town. While the new place was considerably bigger than our previous apartments, it was no surprise that we each had our fair share of items listed on Craigslist at rock bottom prices, including a full sized bed. So when a woman in a neighboring town offered an extra if we delivered, we were quick to borrow a truck and some ratchet straps to complete the journey.
The bed was light as a feather coming out of the apartment. Perhaps that's a statement of quality, as I am certain it was likely the cheapest full sized bed available in the store at the time of purchase several years prior. As we loaded it up, it began to sprinkle. It's just what you need when you have a 30-minute drive and no tarp. We quickly worked on tightening the ratchet strap, which was no easy task given its jumbled state and the rain working against us.

With the bed securely tightened in the back, we were on our way. The rain and wind intensified as we headed down the interstate. I worried that the woman buying the bed would be upset by its wet state upon arrival. I also was concerned that the light mattress would fly out of the back in a big gust of wind.
Thankfully, neither of those things happened. We arrived at our destination and amazingly the mattress had barely gotten wet. The ratchet straps held it down like a champ. On our way home, we discovered someone hadn't been so lucky. Lying wet and dirty on the side of the interstate was a mattress set. Without the right gear, that easily could have been our mattress in the ditch.
